Heritage Project: Spiti, Thangka painting preservation

Here I am preserving an ancient Thangka (Tibetan painting on silk cloth) in a makeshift laboratory inside a local rural building in Lossar, Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. It was a Pragya project.

Soon after finishing my Masters in Conservation and Heritage Management, I was lucky to get a job with a development organisation called Pragya. What made it special was that they worked in the high Indian Himalayan regions, at elevations above 10,000 feet. That alone was enough to make me excited to be chosen for this job, since I have always loved mountains. Our projects were funded by groups like the European Union and the British High Commission.
